Each Youth Section has an individual Peak Award. The pinnacle within that Section. An achievement that fully challenges the youth member to extend their own comforts and develop through goal setting, perseverance, patience, participation and organisation.
Recognised within the Scout Association and the Community as a very high achievement, Peak Awards are not for every Scout. While the Peak Awards will motivate and inspire a number of youth, others may choose to focus on singular areas of SPICES like .... Social, Physical or Intellectual, which is fine.
Any Peak Award path MUST BE 100% self-motivated. Any youth who wants to achieve their Peak Award should talk to their Unit Leadership Team, or, Unit Council and personally set an achievable pathway slightly beyond their current abilities. The Peak Award is something to aspire to and requires dedication to Scouting over a number of years offering each youth the opportunity to growth, learn, develop and lead through our unique Scouting Method.
ADVENTUROUS JOURNEY
While participating in Scouting is a journey in itself, the Adventurous Journey is part of the Peak Award and is designed to allow youth to put into practice some of the skills they have learnt during their time in that Section.
Youth should lead their Adventurous Journey after commencing Milestone 3. To support the youth leading their Adventurous Journey, other youth who are capable to the challenge offered through the Adventurous Journey from the current and next age Section should participate. The Adventurous Journey should present a real adventure that will help set and define the scene for program experiences to come ......
The Adventurous Journey requires youth to be challenged and to connect with nature and the outdoors. Journeys that simply involve travelling from one point to another aren't considered to meet these requirements. In general, the following apply as requirements:-
- The Journey could take one of many different forms, it doesn't necessarily need to be a bushwalk
- The Journey should help the youth connect with nature & the outdoors
- The party size will be informed by the risk management
- The youth will be involved throughout the Plan>Do>Review for the Journey
More than one youth member may be able to achieve their Adventurous Journey for the same route - it all depends on how much involvement they have in the planning and leading of the experience.
Scouting is about adventure, but it is also about friendship. Completing the Adventurous Journey with a friend may be a great learning experience, covering planning, collaboration, negotiation and teamwork.
REMEMBER ... ANYONE who attends an Adventurous Journey might be able to receive a participate towards their Milestone, and skills could have been developed in their Outdoor Adventure Skills as well.

LEADERSHIP or PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT COURSE
As part of the Peak Award for Cubs through to Rovers undertaking a Leadership or Personal Development Course is a requirement, however all youth are encouraged to participate and engage in a Leadership or Personal Development Course as part of developing and exploring their leadership potential.
A chosen Leadership or Personal Development Course should focus on practical and experiential learning ......
Youth may choose to participate in a Scout Course run for their Section, a State or National extension course such as You+Lead, or an external course such as RYLA & RYPEN provided by Rotary Australia. Ideally the course should cover most of the following:-
- Problem-solving
